Resources to Lower Usage
Tips for Lowering Water Use and Checking for Leaks
If your water use is higher than expected, one of the first things to check is for leaks. Even small leaks can waste hundreds of gallons of water over time and may go unnoticed.
Start by inspecting common indoor and outdoor fixtures, including:
- Faucets and showerheads
- Bathtubs and toilets
- Washing machines and dishwashers
- Evaporative (swamp) coolers
- Water heaters
- Irrigation systems, hose bibs, and outdoor spigots
- Any other water-using appliances or connections
Look for dripping water, pooling, corrosion around fittings, or other signs of a leak. Replacing worn washers, tightening loose connections, or repairing faulty fixtures can often resolve the problem quickly.
